Our Process

Therapy Hop provides personalized private speech and language therapy using evidence-based and creative practices.  We begin with a free initial phone consultation with our licensed and certified therapists.  If private speech therapy is a fit for your child, the next step is a full speech-language evaluation.  After the evaluation, we’ll provide counseling and recommendations and answer any questions you might have.   Therapy will begin once you’re comfortable with the treatment plan.

Complimentary Consultation

We offer a 10 to 15 minute phone or in person consultation at no charge. Consultations are designed to determine if you or your child would benefit from a comprehensive evaluation.  This consultation offers the chance to get to know you better and address any questions you may have throughout the process.  A certified Speech-Language Pathologist will speak with you to discuss your concerns in order to decide whether you or your child would benefit from a thorough evaluation. If you are unsure if your child needs speech therapy, call us and we can discuss your options and, if required, set up an evaluation and/or therapy appointment.

Thorough Evaluation

A thorough speech-language evaluation will be performed by a certified Speech Language Pathologist to determine the diagnosis and need, type, and frequency of therapy.

A typical evaluation consists of some or all of the following: case history review, oral mechanism exam, informal observations, articulation and phonological assessments, questionnaires, connected speech sample, intelligibility scale, dynamic motor speech assessment, severity scale and formal standardized testing. Following the evaluation, we review our findings, along with a plan for future visits if treatment is recommended.

Recommendations & Therapy

Based on the results of the assessment, the Speech Language Pathologist will present and discuss findings and recommendations and answer any questions you may have.

Therapy sessions are one-on-one and 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length. They are scheduled 1 to 4 times per week based on unique needs, however, most therapy recommendations are once to twice per week. All therapy is evidence-based and tailored toward the interests of your child. Skills will be based on the child’s readiness and family goals and treatment can be provided at the location most convenient to you and your family, typically home. At the end of each session, the therapist will share session notes and provide you with suggestions and materials for at home practice.

Check-Ins & Collaboration

Therapy Hop believes that constant communication is important throughout the therapy process. We are always available after appointments for phone calls and emails during business hours and between sessions, ready to assist you through your child’s personalized development plan. We’re available to discuss any questions you may have.

Our process does include a focus on parent and family coaching. The ultimate goal is for the whole family to be equipped with skills and techniques that can be transferred into daily life. In addition, we’re available to communicate with any other medical or educational professionals involved in your child’s therapy.
